Winemaking Pump Systems

Carlsen and Associates designs and manufactures a complete line of winemaking equipment including pumps, hoppers, destemmer-crushers, presses and mixer carts. The company builds superior equipment by combining outstanding craftsmanship with top quality components and materials.

Carlsen utilizes heavy-duty Boston Gear 800 Series helical speed reducers and TB Wood’s Sure-Flex® couplings on its full range of cart-based positive displacement pumps featuring volume capacities from 0 to 320 gpm. In the standard drivetrain, the reducer mounts to the C-face motor and the coupling connects the reducer to the pump.

Boston Gear and TB Wood’s were selected based primarily on both brands’ reputation for excellent quality and reliability of their products and service. Carlsen’s general manager explained, “We had used Boston gearboxes in the past and had a very good success rate with them. For distribution reasons, we had to move to competitor reducers. Eventually we went back to Boston, and we were again won over by both the reputation of the product and the sales representative.” Carlsen has been specifying TB Wood’s Sure-Flex couplings for many years.

Highlights:

Series 800 inline helical speed reducers feature a 3.3:1 ratio in two stages, providing increased efficiency and reduced housing size.
Sure-Flex® couplings use a rubber (EPDM), neoprene, or Hytrel sleeve and have exceptional torsional flexibility. Their 4-way flexing action absorbs virtually all types of shock, misalignment, and end float.
